U.S. Ryder Cup task force set
After two decades of European dominance in the Ryder Cup, the Americans have created a task force to figure out why they keep losing.(matériel de golf)
Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Madison's Steve Stricker were among 11 players, captains and PGA of America officials who were appointed to the "Ryder Cup Task Force" that will look at everything from qualifications to captain's picks and even practice schedules during the matches.
Europe has won the Ryder Cup eight of the last 10 times, including a comfortable victory last month at Gleneagles that was remembered as much for Mickelson indirectly criticizing U.S. captain Tom Watson's leadership style in the closing news conference.(Titleist 913 D3)
"This is a great step by the PGA to accomplish what we all want — to win the Ryder Cup," Woods said.

Great moments in Ryder Cup history
The Ryder Cup is one of sport's greatest contests. That wasn't always so.(MB 714 Fers)
The event, which started in 1927 at Worcester Country Club, Massachusetts, and takes place every two years, invariably saw the United States swat aside the teams from Great Britain and Ireland.
By 1977, when the U.S. won by another wide margin, Jack Nicklaus urged rethinking the event to make it more competitive. That included bringing in golfers from continental Europe, where the game was flourishing most notably with the dashing Spaniard Severiano Ballesteros.
Though the U.S. easily won in 1979 and 1981, Europe just fell short in 1983. In 1985, Europe won at the Belfry, England, heralding a golden age for the event. Though Europe has won more than it has lost since 1985, the competition has never been dull, usually thrilling and at times controversial.
The Ryder Cup climbed from near irrelevance to now one of the most anticipated events in the golfing calendar.

Hur holds on to claim Yokohama Classic title
The 24-year-old South Korean Hur won by four strokes over runner-up Lewis, who had captured this event the last time it was held in 2012.
Hur, who is ranked 94th in the world, finished at a record 21-under par 267 and snapped a five-year victory drought on the LPGA Tour with her second win on the US-based circuit.
“I have been struggling for five years but now I have another win so I am happy,” Hur said. “The last two weeks I started to get my confidence back and that is why I had a great time this week.”
American Lewis also closed with a 66 as she took second place with a 17-under total of 271 at the Capitol Hill Golf Club course.(Titleist 913 D3)
Rookie Paula Reto, who was the co-leader after the third round with Hur, stumbled to a one-over 73. South Africa’s Reto took third place at 14-under-par 274.
Hur’s 267 total beat the prior tournament record of 269, which was set in 2010 by Australian Katherine Hull-Kirk.
She finished strong on Sunday, making birdie on three of her final six holes. She made seven birdies in her round.
Hur said it is never easy to go through a major swing change which she has been trying to do for the past few years.“I worked really hard after I struggled with my swing change. I knew I could win again,” she said.
Lewis entered the final round four shots adrift of the leaders. She rolled in four birdies on her first eight holes but couldn’t make up any more ground on the back nine. “I gave myself a great chance, I just couldn’t get any putts to fall,” Lewis said.

Chance to be part of team suits McIlroy at Gleneagles
Rory McIlroy says winning the Ryder Cup would be “the icing on the cake” of an incredible year for him.(matériel de golf pas cher)
McIlroy heads to Gleneagles with his European team-mates this week sitting at No 1 in the world rankings and having won four tournaments in the last five months, including The Open and the US PGA Championship.
It has been a stunning return to form for McIlroy, who had slipped to as low as 11th in the rankings following a disappointing 2013, and now the Northern Irishman is looking to add another Ryder Cup success to his list of triumphs.
“Personally for me it would just be the icing on the cake of what’s already a fantastic year,” he said during a TV interview yesterday.
“It feels like everyone involved is just so passionate about it, and even the public get so much more passionate about it than the majors or individual tournaments.”
McIlroy has been almost exclusively paired with countryman Graeme McDowell in his previous two Ryder Cups but it remains to be seen if the duo will link up again this week.
McIlroy did suggest, though, that there may be a few “interesting pairings” in Paul McGinley’s line-up.(913 D3 Driver)
“I’m very lucky that I get on well with a lot of the guys,” he added. “Graeme McDowell obviously is a big friend of mine, Poults (Ian Poulter) I’ve played with before, Sergio Garcia’s another one where we’ve got a good chemistry.
“So there’s a few guys I can play with. You might see a few interesting pairings next week.”

Hur, Lewis grab early lead at Yokohama event
Stacy Lewis and South Korea's Hur Mi-Jung share the lead after shooting bogey-free eight-under 64s on Thursday during the opening round of the LPGA Tour's Yokohama Tire Classic.
American Lewis won this title the last time the tournament was held in 2012. That was one of her 11 USLPGA Tour titles.
"It's a course I've liked from the get-go that you can be fairly aggressive on," Lewis said of the Capitol Hill Golf Club course.
"Especially this year with it a little bit softer you can be aggressive, but you have to hit it to the right sections of the greens."
South Africa's Paula Reto is alone in third place as she posted a seven-under 65.(Série de fers)
Karin Sjodin, Ayako Uehara and Cydney Clanton share fourth place at six-under, while Christina Kim, Kris Tamulis, Yoo Sun-Young, Beatriz Recari and Lee Il-Hee are tied for seventh at five-under 67. Recari shared sixth place at this tournament two years ago.
Lewis parred the par-four 15th, but followed with three straight birdies to close out her bogey-free round.
"I hit my wedges a lot better, which is always a good sign for me," Lewis said. "When my wedges get back on track, that usually gets the entire swing back going in the right direction."
Hur is seeking her second win on the USLPGA Tour. She capped her bogey-free first round with a par on her final hole of the day.(Ping G25 Fers)
"It was a bogey-free round today. That was my goal for today and I made it," Hur said. "My irons were really working good and also my putter was very good, so everything was perfect for the round."
